Book Recommendations: Preschool/Kindergarten

If you follow my Instagram page @eat_play_read, I try to post a #FavoriteBookFriday every week with one of my favorites and a brief list of reasons WHY I love it. This page is where you can find my ongoing list of recommendations for preschool & kindergarten aged children!

Valentine’s Week!

Of course for Valentine’s week I had to pick my favorite Valentine books for Favorite Book Friday. I absolutely love these two and used them each year in my classroom when I taught kindergarten to go along with my lesson plans/crafts.

The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond

This cute little story follows the adventure of a little girl that works hard to spread love to those around her by making her own Valentines. I paired this book with a craft that encourage counting practice and early addition skills in my kindergarten classroom. I used a heart punch tool to make little paper hearts and allowed each student to choose 2 different colors in order to create their own addition sentence. We added an umbrella to go along with the book!

The Love Monster books by Rachel Bright

Kids just love these books! I think it is the illustrations combined with the “friendly monster” type character that draws them in. Follow along on his adventures of spreading love and kindness to others for Valentines Day in any of the Love Monster books! We made our own Love Monsters one year in my kindergarten classroom with our 3rd grade buddies. It was so fun and I love how different they all turned out!
