“The Thinker” Lovevery Box

What is Lovevery?

Wondering what Lovevery is? Read more on my blog post on our first play kit HERE.

what's inside this month's play kit?

  • “Baby Avery” doll

We love this little stuffed doll for imaginary play and also for teaching body part vocabulary. My son thinks it is so cute–whenever I pick it up and say “hi!”, he gives the cutest little smile!

  • Sliding top box

This has become one of my son’s favorite toys. I put it out on his shelf or play mat and everyday he goes to it and plays independently. He is still working on the sliding top, but has developed object permanence as he tries to dig out the ball with his hand after he drops it in. He also likes to find other objects that will fit inside through trial and error. We have had this box for a couple months now and it has not gotten old!

  • Animals I See mini book

This is a cute mini board book for little hands. We love naming the animals and making their sounds. We always talk about our pet cat when we see the cat picture too! Helpful for building vocabulary as well as making connections.

  • Wooden Stacking Stones

These are great for construction play as well as for practicing the cause-and-effect skill. We usually use these stones to build, knock over and then build again (cause-and-effect). I love that they help strengthen grip and coordination given the various sizes.

  • Pincer Puzzle

This little puzzles builds the pincer grasp, which is a more sophisticated grasp that babies work on developing into toddlerhood, then eventually into the preschool years. Other than peg puzzles, we don’t have many toys that directly target this skill, so it is perfect for practice.

  • First Wallet with Cards & Wood Coins

Another reason I love Lovevery: the targeted age on the box is based on the developmental skills the materials focus in on, but not the only time they will be utilizing the materials and definitely not the only time they will be interested in the toys! So far my son loves the coins (mostly for teething) and looking at the cards/putting them in other toys such as his push train with a seat opening. He is still working on zipping the pouch (complex fine motor skill) and of course number identification and counting skills using the coins. We do however, model these skills for him when we play together.

  • Opposite Balls

One is heavy and one is light—I wish I had recorded the first time my son tried picking up the heavy ball. He was just so surprised how much effort he had to put forth in comparison to the light ball. These are great for building physical skills as well as vocabulary such as heavy/light and sink/float (in the tub or water table).

  • Silly Songs

This kit came with a little booklet of silly songs to sing together. We sing these a lot during diaper changes and bath time!

  • Play Guide

All Lovevery play kits come with a play guide for suggested use on each of the play items as well as other similar activities to build on targeted developmental skills. There is information for parents on what to expect at their child’s current age & stage as well!

why i plan to continue our subscription

There are so many places to buy toys for your children and so many ways you can create engaging activities at home. The reasons I plan to continue paying for our subscription for a play kit (now every 3 months instead of 2 for the toddler play kit) are:

  • The items are high quality and well-made.
  • They are developmentally appropriate. They benefit your child by providing them with opportunities to practice skills that are relevant to their growth and learning.
  • They “grow” with your child. Even though they are created to target a specific skill at a certain point in your child’s development, there are new ways your child can play with the items as they age.
  • They are open-ended— meaning your child is less likely to get sick of them!
  • I love Lovevery! The meaning and purpose behind the company (check out their website for more on this) and the customer service have made our overall experience so pleasant. I look  forward to sharing our future Lovevery play kits with you!
